TABOU1 is reissuing the first album ever released on Sly and Robbie’s TAXI label in 1979. After a tour with Peter Tosh, they bought 4 multitrack tapes and asked Gregory Isaacs to voice some tunes. Since they had backed so many of his hits, Gregory recorded for free to help launch the label. At the time he was Jamaica’s biggest artist, the Cool Ruler in full stride, and Sly and Robbie were the hottest young rhythm section.
The sessions produced gems like Soon Forward, a strong take on Slave Driver, and 4 more heavyweight cuts. Gregory’s voice was at its peak, no filler, no soft covers, just clarity and power.
This edition includes the full Discomix versions plus 3 dub cuts originally issued only in Jamaica as B sides in 1979, never reissued until now, offering a vivid snapshot of the Riddim Twins’ evolving drum and bass sound.
